AVADirect GT3 : Core i7 Gaming System

Nomad gamers who find themselves rolling from place to place know that portability can be almost as important as performance. The AVADirect GT3 is made for them. This gaming desktop has a compact chassis, yet boasts a full-blown Core 17 quad-core processor and high-powered ATI RadeonHD graphics card. Thanks to its manageable size and reasonable weight, the GT3 is a more practical gaming rig for LAN parties than the humongous speed machines.

The GT3's mostly ABS plastic chassis measures about 15.5 by 4.5 by 12.5 inches (HWD) and uses an internal riser card system that turns the graphics card orientation 90 degrees to fit a full-size graphics card. Because of the cooling needs of a quad-core processor and dual-width graphics card, the very noticeable fans make quite a din. There are also customization options for some of the components but not much room for expansion.

This system was a very good performer on our 3D games test, returning smooth, playable numbers for both Crysis (81 frames per second) and World in Conflict (93 fps) at our standard l,280-by-l,024 resolution. The GT3 also finished our Windows Media Encoder test in 34 seconds. In the niche market of hard-core gamers, the GT3 makes a good argument for buying over building.

Sony Vaio X Series:Review, Features And Specification

Sony’s Vaio X Series is the company’s new slimmie that makes the Macbook Air look fat by comparison, but does it pack enough inside its lithe case to compete with the big boys? Read our Sony Vaio X Series review now to find out.

Sony’s Vaio X Series laptop is slim. Damn slim. It needs to run around in the shower to get wet, that kind of slim. It measures just 13.9mm fat, which is thinner than the Macbook Air (although the Air does get down to just 4mm at one point, but that doesn’t accurately represent the bulk of carrying it). And as such, the Sony Vaio X Series feels a little flimsy, more like a delicate ornament than a warhorse that’ll see you through all kinds of scrapes.

The Sony’s Vaio X Series is crazily light – just 780g to be precise. Sling it in a laptop bag and you’ll forget it’s there, it’s that light. And if you’ve been lugging round a 13-inch Macbook previously, it feels like someone’s emptied your bag of a slab of concrete.

The Sony Vaio X Series comes with Windows 7, a choice of either 128 or 256GB flash memory, and two USB ports . The keyboard is nicely spaced out, with ample room between each key to minimize mis-hits. Plus there’s a proper mouse trackpad with gesture controls, unlike the nipple on the even smaller P Series. The trackpad is a little small, and pinching to zoom on pictures only worked about once in every three times, but we’d still much rather it than the awful effort on the Vaio P.

At 10.1-inches, the screen is an inch smaller than the Air’s, but it’s bright and colours are vivid. A handy Wireless switch lets you turn off Wi-Fi and preserve battery without having to go into an on-screen menu. And the Atom processor on the Vaio X Series is fine for basic applications, but don’t expect it to run Fallout 3.

One of the compromises of the slimness is there’s no CD drive, although built-in 3G mobile broadband will get you online wherever you are. And we’d advise the matte black finish over the glossy one, the latter attracting fingerprints like dogs to a butcher’s window. As for the champagne gold finish? Euch.

This being Sony, the Vaio X Series does cost a bomb. But in terms of sexiness and mobility, it’s unbeatable.

Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot

Verizon's version of the MiFi 2200 can use only Verizon's network you can't plug any other 3G modem into it. Powered only by a battery, the Verizon MiFi provides Internet access to up to five devices in a range of about 30 to 40 feet via 802.11g (not the faster 802.11n).

The included VZAccess Management client application has a Microsoft VPN client,Text Messaging tool, and it provides information on your Wi-Fi network. VZAccess is slightly easier to use than the other interfaces, but it has some minor bugs like not detecting wireless networks with hidden SSIDs, even if the networks were preferred networks in Windows.

Battery life for the MiFi, rated at 4 hours with constant use, drops much faster with multiple devices: just over 90 minutes with four Wi-Fi connections. It picked up the SSID of the MiFi at almost 50 feet but the service was sporadic. In speed tests, the Verizon MiFi reached its highest throughput speed at 2.5 Mbps for downloads and 0.9 Mbps for uploads.

Although the Verizon MiFi runs a bit hotter than I prefer (especially if it's going to be in your pocket) and battery life is too short, this device is still a good basic choice for getting the Web on the go.

Toshiba Satellite p505

This is one humungous laptop that we are talking about and combine with the weight of the thing u might wanna reconsider calling it a portable pc. Eventhough the big size may be a worry, the glossy black pinstripe finish and the chrome trim will sure make heads turn. Among other things u can see how the weight of the screen affects the screen hinges making it wiggle when u shift with the laptop.

Then 18.4' panel gives you a resolution of 1680x945 which is kinda low for something so big. but the panel is still nice for gamind, viewing images or HD videos. The p505 is packed with and impressive haran/kardon sound system which is more than enough for small room listening, though headphones are recommened for larger rooms.

The keyboard was responsive and comfortable enough though you will find it hard to adjust with a tight key positioning. Its has a much praised Synaptics touchpad, even though it did seem to lag a bit, which was frustrating.

In short, the Toshiba Satellite P505 is a multimedia powerhouse that packs an ATI Radeon HD 4650 and a massive 18.4" display. Offering dual drives for optimal performance and storage, this notebook handle all your multimedia needs, while still being able to power through games.

Windows 7

Now all the talk about operating systems is being covered up by the widely accepted and well- accoladed Windows 7, which is all set to replace the windows-blunder Vista. Now Vista did have positive, can't deny that but it lacked the cohesiveness. Windows 7 have already been tested out by over a million users with the beta version being out through torrents and other file-sharing sites.Windows 7 has been rated by many as the ultimate OS and the near-perfect OS. It has also been called by Paul Thurrot as "sexy". Now with all these remarks there has to be something up this OS's sleeve.take a look at the desktopits simple enough with a single icon (recycle bin) on the desktop as usual and a transparent taskbar, though i must say the taskbar cud have been btr. More about it coming on.Windows 7 also has a little function that makes open windows transparent so that you can see the desktop as such along with the mouse movements.vb the window swao funstion has been tweaked to show full shot of the windowwe can also preview a minimised window by hovering mouse over itwhilevistaallowed us to minimse copy windows 7 goes on to give us the status of the minimised copy windowanotherattractivefeatureisthepicturegallery, the pic says it all.windows 7 is also reputed to be the most user friendly and secure OS to be out from windows. If you ask me, i say..... go get it.Tags:- Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Xp, OS

NVIDIA Launches The World's First Interactive Ray Tracing Engine

NVIDIA introduced the NVIDIA OptiX ray tracing engine, part of a suite of application acceleration engines for software developers.

NVIDIA acceleration engines make it easy to incorporate valuable, high-performance capabilities into applications, while simultaneously reducing development time. NVIDIA application acceleration engines unveiled at Siggraph 2009 include:

NVIDIA OptiX engine for real-time ray tracing
NVIDIA SceniX engine for managing 3D data and scenes
NVIDIA CompleX engine for scaling performance across multiple GPUs
NVIDIA PhysX 64-bit engine for real-time, hyper-realistic physical and environmental effects

As the world?s first interactive ray tracing engine to leverage the GPU, the NVIDIA OptiX engine is a programmable ray tracing pipeline enabling software developers to easily bring new levels of realism to their applications using traditional C programming. By tapping into the massively parallel computing power of NVIDIA Quadro processors, the OptiX engine greatly accelerates the ray tracing used across a spectrum of disciplines, including: photorealistic rendering, automotive styling, acoustical design, optics simulation, volume calculations and radiation research. Application developers are utilizing the OptiX engine to redefine what?s possible for designers, engineers and researchers.

XDR™2 DRAM

Rambus' XDR™2 DRAM is a high-performance, power-efficient memory, optimized for high-bandwidth applications such as gaming, graphics and multi-core computing. Initial devices are capable of 9.6Gbps data rates providing up to 38.4GB/s of bandwidth from a single 4-byte-wide device. The roadmap for XDR2 extends to 12.8Gbps data rates providing 51.2GB/s of bandwidth per device.

The XDR2 DRAM uses a traditional 8-bank CMOS DRAM core, with standard and micro-threaded operating modes. XDR DRAM support device densities from 512Mbit to 4Gbit with initial devices targeting 1 Gbit density. In addition to using Rambus micro-threading, XDR2 DRAM also incorporates other Rambus innovations such as Flexlink™C/A: the industry's first full-speed, scalable point-to-point command/address channel. Flexlink C/A, combined with programmable DRAM width and Enhanced Dynamic Point-to-Point (DPP), allows for highly scalable memory system capacity and access granularity, making XDR2 the ideal solution for a wide range of applications.Micro-threading is a new operating mode available in XDR2 DRAM which effectively doubles the number of individually addressable, simultaneously accessible banks. A standard 8-bank core can thus perform effectively as a 16-bank memory device, reducing column access granularity and increasing usable bandwidth to the controller.
